2008 Mule™ 600


Compact style with first class performance

The two-wheel-drive Kawasaki Mule™ 600 utility vehicle lends itself perfectly to farm, ranch or industrial work, as well as around the house or outdoor recreation. Plus, it can be transported in the back of a full-size pickup truck.

The Mule 600 features a single-cylinder engine matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and features a dual-mode rear differential, independent front suspension, unit swing-axle rear suspension and hydraulic brakes.

The spacious cab features curved body panels and a large-diameter steel tube frame to give it a clean, modern look, while automotive-type controls and the gear selector are within easy reach on the dashboard. Adding some finesse to its muscular worker horse, Kawasaki fitted the hard working Mule™ 3010 4x4 Diesel with electric power steering (EPS) for 2008. Already a proven hand with its reliable and stout diesel engine, automatic transmission, tilting cargo bed, and selectable four-wheel drive, this MULE just got more comfortable and easier to use.

The new EPS offers a more comfortable and controlled ride by reducing steering effort at low speeds and harnessing its electric motor’s inertia to dampen out most of the bump steer and kickback caused by impacts to the wheel. Electrically driven, the motor is controlled by an ECU that uses input from a vehicle speed sensor and torque sensor to determine the amount of assistance provided by the system. The system works immediately and doesn’t put a power drain on the engine. It operates as soon as the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position.

The Mule 3010 4x4 Diesel utility vehicle features a rugged grille, headlights and rounded fenders like its 3000-series siblings. Body panels of the cab are made of durable, colored plastic to help hide scuffing. The front hood of the Mule 3010 Diesel can be lifted with the touch of a button to reveal a large storage space, which also has convenient D-rings to secure cargo and the two lever latches make opening and closing the tailgate easy. Located beneath the front bumper are winch-ready tabs for an easy installation of a winch.

The Mule 3010 4x4 Diesel powerplant is a liquid-cooled, 953cc three-cylinder diesel engine that produces high torque at low engine rpm. Air for the engine is drawn through an intake located at the top of the cab frame and passes through a cyclone-type air cleaner, reducing dust intake.

The diesel engine is matched to the Kawasaki Automatic Power-Drive System (KAPS) a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that features a high and low range, reverse, and helps keep engine rpm in the most efficient range for any selected="true"="true"="true" vehicle speed, load, or terrain and yields a wide drive ratio spread for ample pulling power and quick acceleration. Strength and durability are aided by large torque converters which maximize belt engagement area, improve heat dissipation, as well as the use of a thick, strong drive belt and sheaves with high silicon-type material.

The KAPS also features a high-flow cover that helps cool the CVT while providing superb splash protection and water-proofing. This reliable system is combined with a dependable, low-maintenance shaft drive to transmit power to a dual-mode rear differential that can be locked to maximize traction, or unlocked to minimize ground disturbance when making tight turns. 2008 MODEL The original transforming utility vehicle adds power steering to its repertoire

Kawasaki introduced the diesel version of its successful MULE™ 3010 Trans4x4® last year. This unit mated the extra power and convenience of a diesel engine with a four-wheel drive off-road utility vehicle that allows the user to transform it from a four-person 4x4 to a two-person with an extended cargo bed 4x4 in a few quick steps. For 2008, Kawasaki upped the ante again — and added electric power steering (EPS) to the versatile MULE 3010 Trans4x4 DIESEL.

The new EPS offers a more comfortable and controlled ride by reducing steering effort at low speeds and harnessing its electric motor’s inertia to dampen out most of the bump steer and kickback caused by impacts to the wheel. Electrically driven, the motor is controlled by an ECU that uses input from a vehicle speed sensor and torque sensor to determine the amount of assistance provided. This system doesn’t put a power drain on the engine and works immediately — available as soon as the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position.

This versatility, coupled with the legendary reputation of Kawasaki’s liquid-cooled, three cylinder diesel engine makes the MULE 3010 Trans4x4 DIESEL an immediate winner. The overhead valve design of the engine maximizes efficiency while the cast iron block and head ensure extra durability in all types of usage. Producing 38.3 lb.-ft. of torque @ 2,800 rpm, this unit has low-end pulling power to spare for the most rigorous of needs.

The engine air cleaner is a cyclone-type Donaldson unit with a replaceable paper element. This design is effective and needs less frequent cleaning, even through repeated MULE utility vehicle use in extremely dusty off-road conditions. The MULE is equipped with a gauge that indicates when the filter should be changed.

Among this MULE many attributes are a dual-mode differential, limited slip front differential, two-speed transfer case for the four-wheel drive, independent strut-type front suspension, DeDion rear suspension, and four-wheel, self-adjusting sealed hydraulic drum brakes.

An improved ride—in conditions that often times cry out for comfort—comes courtesy of the 23-inch tires with stiff sidewalls, improving both off-road function and providing added ground clearance. The rear wheel bearings use two rollers in one large bearing, providing added durability.

Kawasaki takes pride in the owner usability attached to all of its products, and this MULE is no exception. The simple, easy to operate controls for the MULE 3010 Trans4x4 DIESEL are all dash-mounted. In addition to the shift mechanism, they include a new digital hour meter, a horn, a 12-volt DC outlet with 10-amp capacity, and a speedometer. A parking brake and coolant temperature warning light are in plain view, and the MULE has a sealed glove box, and an open dashboard storage area.

Winch mounts are standard on the frame of this all-purpose UV, and users will be able to find their way in all kinds of lighting conditions by using the 35-watt, cat-eye headlights that are activated by the push of a simple dash-mounted button.

2008 Mule™ 3010 Trans4X4®


Transformable utility vehicle provides exceptional performance

The Kawasaki Mule™ 3010 Trans4x4™, recipient of the 2006 American Hunter Vehicle of the Year Award, is the world’s most unique off-road utility vehicle. It is the first to give the driver the ability to transform it from a four-passenger 4x4 to a two-passenger 4x4 with an extended cargo bed with a few quick adjustments. The operator can fold down the rear bench seat and extend the cargo bed farther forward to increase payload capacity. When the operator wants to transform it back to a four-passenger vehicle, the same quick adjustments are made in reverse order.

The wheelbase of the Mule 3010 Trans4x4 is 11.6 inches longer than that of the Mule 3010 4x4, but features the same styling, car-like controls, dashboard and front under-hood storage. Additional body features for the Trans4x4 include retractable rear seat belts and padded rear-passenger grab handles.

The Mule 3010 Trans4x4 utility vehicle utilizes the same durable and reliable powertrain as the Mule 3010 4x4. The quiet, liquid-cooled industrial V-twin engine has a proven record for hard-working reliability and is matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The CVT is fine-tuned for the Trans4x4’s higher passenger and cargo capacity, and features high and low range, plus reverse. The driver can also select either two- or four-wheel drive operation, with power being transferred to a shaft-driven dual-mode rear differential and limited-slip front differential.

One of the benefits of the Mule 3010 Trans4x4’s extended chassis is its ability to carry an extra gallon of fuel. Combined with a heavy duty DeDion/leaf spring rear suspension system, it has a cargo capacity of 400 pounds in four-passenger mode, and 800 pounds with the cargo bed extended forward. Plus, the Trans4x4 can tow up to 1,200 pounds with an optional towing hitch.

Other chassis features include smooth-riding MacPherson strut front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, which helps to make steering light and accurate.
