2007 Jet Ski® STX®-12F

Impressive performance and versatility
What traits should a personal watercraft possess? We all know it should have plenty of power, look great, and have useful features to make it noteworthy. The Kawasaki JET SKI® STX®-12F watercraft has all that, with a few extras to keep it riding higher than the competition.

It all starts with the engine. The STX-12F powerplant was adapted from Kawasaki’s leading-edge Ninja® motorcycle line. The dual overhead camshaft 1,199cc water-cooled engine makes plenty of power for optimum performance , and even boasts of low emissions and quiet operation. The STX-12F meets the strictest existing emission standards for both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). In fact, the STX-12F received CARB’s ultra-low “three-star” rating in 2003, five years before it was required to by law.

The STX-12F also features four valves per cylinder, fuel injection and an electronic engine control unit (ECU) that coordinates the ignition system and fuel injection to provide maximum performance and reliability.

The fuel injection system itself utilizes a single 54mm throttle body and individual injectors at each chrome composite-plated aluminum cylinder to provide fuel for the high-performance engine, resulting in smooth power delivery and instant starting in any kind of weather.

The STX-12F is designed to be quiet, reliable and environmentally friendly. While highly tuned, the engine’s exhaust system is water-jacketed to help reduce underhood temperatures and keep it running as quietly as possible. The large-capacity airbox is specially designed to both boost power and reduce intake noise levels. To reduce vibration, the engine is rubber-mounted.

The STX-12F features an open-loop cooling system that utilizes an intake filter and draws cooling water from the jet pump, ensuring consistent operating temperatures for maximum performance.

A direct-drive axial-flow jet pump is connected to an oval-edge, stainless steel, three-blade impeller. The direct drive pump has no gear reduction unit, allowing the engine to turn a lower rpm for lower stress, less wear and tear, lower vibration levels, less noise and better fuel consumption. A reverse function allows easy maneuverability in tight quarters.

The STX-12F is also equipped with Kawasaki Smart Steering® (KSS®). KSS features a steering sensor that is electronically linked to an on-board microprocessor. If the handlebar is fully turned in either direction and the engine rpm drops from a designated rpm, such as when the throttle is released at speed, the microprocessor activates the KSS, which raises engine rpm to provide enough thrust to initiate the desired turn.

Assisting with low-speed maneuvering is a reverse bucket that is shaped to deliver optimum thrust for more precise direction control when backing, and the bucket is injection molded to eliminate corrosion.

The STX-12F also features Kawasaki’s innovative electronic Smart Learning Operation (SLO). Accessible directly on the instrument panel, SLO can be programmed to place a limit on maximum engine speed so novice riders can experience riding at a reduced speed while they master proper riding techniques.

Even the hull bristles with innovation. The STX-12F’s deep-V hull is made of fiberglass and gel-coated for a lustrous, scratch-resistant finish and features the molded-in Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) to help minimize spray. High-performance sponsons help get the hull up on plane and provide “grip” while the hull design facilitates precise cornering, increased stability at high speed and a smoother ride in rough water.

The STX-12F boasts a sporty design with its stylish deck and angular seat, offering a muscular look befitting a high-performance watercraft. The handlebars are located in a cab-forward position to provide plenty of room for the rider, plus abundant floor space provides room for the rider’s feet. There are even footrests to help stabilize a rear-facing spotter when pulling a skier, wakeboarder or tuber.

The open rear deck has space easily used for getting into skis or as a diving platform. Reboarding in deep water is simplified with the automatically retracting boarding step located at the rear of the hull. The rear deck can also accommodate a cooler or other items needed for a day on the water. The STX-12F features water-resistant storage space, an easily accessible glove box and front storage compartment. A hydraulic damper holds the front storage hood open, allowing easy access until the operator closes it. Another large storage area is located under the seat.

The Jet Ski STX-12F features a 16.4-gallon fuel tank for more riding time between fill-ups and an LCD instrument panel allows riders to monitor fuel level, speed, engine rpm, trip distance and time. Warning lamps alert the rider to low fuel level or high engine temperature. In addition, there is a magnetic keyed ignition switch to help deter theft or unauthorized use.

Jet Ski® STX®-15F

Pure waterborne fun, Kawasaki Jet Ski style

With a high-performance engine from the legendary Kawasaki Ninja® motorcycle line as its foundation, the JET SKI® STX® -15F delivers the kind of performance expected from a Kawasaki JET SKI watercraft. A smooth spread of power across the entire rpm range thanks the flat torque curve out of the long-stroke, 1,498cc engine ensures plenty of good times. Dual overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, fuel injection and electronic engine control--to harmonize the fuel and ignition systems--provide maximum performance and reliability. A four-injector fuel injection system combined with a large 60mm throttle body deliver a quick response.

High-performance with high standards; the STX-15F has earned a Three-Star Ultra-Low Emissions rating, meeting the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) strictest standards, as well as the California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards for 2008. Refined as it is clean-running, the STX-15F’s four-stroke engine is rubber-mounted in the hull, the performance-tuned exhaust system is water-jacketed, and it has dual mufflers and a large-capacity airbox.

Propulsion duties are handled by a direct drive axial-flow jet pump driving an oval-edge, stainless steel, three-blade impeller and an 82mm jet pump nozzle for powerful acceleration. Tuned to produce its peak power at a relatively low rpm, the STX-15F engine matches the impeller’s peak efficiency rpm ideally to provide a rider-friendly propelling performance. This direct drive arrangement eliminates any need for a complex gear reduction unit and offers improved durability and increased fuel economy with less vibration and noise.

The STX-15F features Kawasaki’s innovative electronic Smart Learning Operation (SLO). Accessible directly on the instrument panel, SLO can be programmed to place a limit on maximum engine speed so novice riders can experience riding at a reduced speed as they master proper riding techniques.

Also fitted to every STX-15F is the Kawasaki Smart Steering® (KSS®). KSS features an on-board microprocessor that is electronically linked to a steering sensor. When the handlebar is fully turned in either direction and the engine rpm drops from a designated rpm—as when the throttle is released at speed—the microprocessor activates the system, which raises engine rpm to provide enough thrust to initiate the desired turn.

Aggressive turning and high-speed stability are key performance attributes of the STX-15F. Its specifically designed injection-molded sponsons have a special “lip” for increased cornering grip and high-speed stability. Also incorporated into the hull design is a molded-in Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) to help minimize spray on the rider.

While the muscular and aggressive looking STX-15F is lighter and more compact than the competition, Kawasaki engineers endowed the JET SKI with a roomy riding position that makes aggressive performance riding easier and suits a wider range of riders.

Adding to the fresh, high-quality styling of the STX-15F, the hatch cover is styled from sleek ABS plastic and uses a hydraulic damper to hold it open, allowing easy access until the rider closes it. Also made of ABS plastic, the mirrors echo the sleek lines and are mounted directly to the deck.

The spacious rear deck of the STX-15F makes it easy to get into water skis or on a wakeboard. An automatically retracting boarding step located on the rear of the hull simplifies reboarding in deep water. There is no shortage of space to stow items on the STX-15F. The rear deck can accommodate items needed for a day on the water, like a cooler, along with a water-resistant storage space, an easily accessible glove box and additional room for gear located under the seat.

Other features include a LCD instrument panel with fuel level, speed, engine rpm, trip distance and time information available. Fuel capacity is a generous 16.4 gallons, for extended rides. Warning lamps alert the rider to a low fuel level or high engine temperature, and a magnetic keyed ignition switch helps deter unauthorized operation.

Jet Ski® Ultra® 250X

The 250 horsepower pinnacle of PWC performance

Kawasaki extended its high-performance domination into the realm of personal watercraft with the 250 horsepower JET SKI® Ultra® 250X. The quickest and most powerful production PWC in history, Kawasaki’s supercharged Ultra 250X tears across the water at an electrifying pace that will invigorate even the most jaded of speed enthusiasts. Once up to speed, its precise handling and superb stability are equally impressive, thanks to a hull specifically designed to capitalize on the engine’s awesome performance.

The JET SKI Ultra 250X’s engine, jet drive and hull incorporate racing technology refined through Kawasaki’s multiple IJSBA championships. This knowledge application allows it to deliver the awesome acceleration of a drag racer, and help ensure excellent hook-up –even in rough water.

With a 1,498cc engine derived from Kawasaki’s capable JET SKI STX®-15F watercraft as the foundation, the Ultra 250X produces power comparable to a normally aspirated high-performance three-liter engine. It accomplishes this amazing feat via the addition of a Roots-type supercharger. Unlike centrifugal superchargers or turbochargers, the Ultra 250X’s high-volume direct-drive supercharger delivers boost virtually instantly at any engine speed from idle to redline. This produces a linear, smooth torque curve that is ideal for a personal watercraft that needs to accelerate hard all the way from a standstill to its breath-taking top-end speed.

Heat build-up from compressing the intake air is a common drawback of forced-induction. The Ultra 250X uses of a large-capacity intercooler to overcome this handicap. With the 250X’s supercharger compressing the air to a maximum boost pressure of 11.4psi, the intake charge can reach extremely-high temperatures potentially limiting the engine’s power output. However, the 250X’s large-capacity intercooler brings the pressurized air down to ambient temperature or even less –ideal for producing maximum power.

A huge 155mm jet pump featuring the largest PWC impeller and nozzle Kawasaki has ever produced transfers the big power from supercharged 1,498cc engine into the JET SKI Ultra 250X’s blazing acceleration. Developed based on lessons learned from Kawasaki’s race machines, this pump was designed to deliver predictable thrust and good “traction,” even in rough water.

A significant factor in this extra “traction” are the pump’s eight guide vanes that smooth the flow of water from the impeller for efficient and powerful propulsion. The pump also incorporates a groove from the center to the rear of the ride plate which makes it easier to hold a stable heading for straight line riding. Complimenting the 155mm jet pump is an equally large, sophisticated three-blade impeller that delivers high performance with smooth and quiet operation.

In addition to more power and acceleration than any other production watercraft on the planet, the Ultra 250X also boasts a race-developed hull. Its hull design is just as comfortable in rough conditions as in calm. Even at high speeds, rough water can do little to deter the Ultra 250X. This combination of unearthly power mated with the latest hull technology permits Kawasaki’s flagship to literally cleave through waves that would send lesser machines ricocheting to a safe harbor.

Thanks to a specifically engineered hull, the Ultra 250X has the precise handling and superb stability to match its acceleration and top-speed capabilities. A fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) hull, it is loaded with DNA from Kawasaki’s IJSBA championship winning machines. This includes carefully designed sponsons and chins for enhanced straight-line stability and precise cornering, combined with a 22.5° deep-V hull that leans into corners like a motorcycle. This provides a smoother ride in rough water, helps passengers keep the rider in control during peak cornering g-forces.

The Ultra 250X features a five-step adjustable handlebar position that allows either stand-up or sit-down riding for a wide range of riders to enjoy superior comfort and versatility. As Kawasaki’s flagship watercraft, the 250X includes thoughtful standard features like an enormous 53-gallon of storage space including a detachable front storage compartment and a 20.6-gallon fuel tank for substantial cruising range.

From horsepower to handling and everything in between, once the spray settles after the first ride, one thing will be certain. This powerful “ultra” JET SKI model delivers a level of performance and excitement that is unmatched by any other watercraft.
